Vishwas Apte

Hi, I’m Vishwas Apte

Romantic Realist with a soft touch

Vishwas Apte is known for being a romantic realist with a passion for capturing the beauty he sees in life. He always looks for the truthfulness of colors and designs that nature provides. His drawings are painted directly from life.

His landscapes are shot on location and finished in his studio. He believes nature is the best teacher. He prefers to work in oil but also loves pencil, watercolor, acrylic, and waterproof inks. He is deeply inspired by village landscapes, especially houses built with mud and bricks.

Being a romantic realist, he believes that artwork created directly from nature connects deeply with people and touches their hearts. Painting in nature is a great source of inspiration for him, and his paintings always reflect positive forces of life.

Vishwas has been painting since the age of 11. He has a unique style characterized by expressive forms, fresh colors, and confident thick lines. He believes every painting must begin with a strong drawing, followed by decisive brushstrokes.

Born into a family with an army background, Vishwas moved from small villages to metropolitan cities. This upbringing instilled discipline, freedom, and strong communication skills, which strengthened his creative thinking.

Since childhood, he showed a natural inclination toward painting. His father, himself an artist without formal training, always encouraged him. Vishwas was fortunate to have Mr. Bhagwat, a genius in fine arts, as his first guru.

Under his guidance, Vishwas learned to prepare his own canvases and colors. Discussions on painting, poetry, literature, psychology, cinema, and philosophy broadened his artistic vision.

He completed his studies in Drawing and Painting from Sir J.J. Institute of Applied Arts, Mumbai. Living in Mumbai opened avenues in advertising, cinema, costume design, graphics, set design, screenplays, and lyrics writing.

After graduating, he entered the advertising world and worked as an Illustrator, Visualizer, Art Director, and Creative Director. His advertising career naturally led him to the Hindi film industry.

Vishwas believes that drawing from nature keeps artistic skills sharp and alive. He has studied works of old masters like John Constable, Peter Paul Rubens, Edgar Degas, and Vincent van Gogh, which continue to influence his work.
